Sustainability and Ethics
At Bugs and Bows I create art to honor the natural beauty of insects and give them a life after death. By transforming creatures that many people see as disgusting into delicate, dollhouse-like settings, I hope to inspire a new appreciation for their loveliness.
I carefully source all the insects I use in my art from sustainable suppliers. These suppliers work with farms and other responsible sources where insects are raised in ways that support conservation, local ecosystems, and the community. The specimens I use have lived out their natural lives or passed away from natural causes. I never harm or kill insects for my work, my goal is to celebrate their lives not take them.
I know that taxidermy can be a sensitive topic with different morals and ethics, and I approach it with great care and respect. For me, Bugs and Bows is more than just creating art, it’s about changing how we see the things we deem grotesque. By presenting my insects in intricate and cutesy settings I aim to show their beauty and create a deeper appreciation for these misunderstood creatures.
I am committed to sustainability in not only the aspects of my daily life but in areas of my work. Whenever possible I use second-hand materials for my creations. This way each piece aims to be eco-friendly while also creating something truly unique.
When you are buying or viewing pieces from Bugs and Bows you’re not just supporting my small art business but also joining me in celebrating the incredible lives of the misjudged.
